I want to share some honest education around luxury bag pricing because I think there can be a disconnect between what someone hopes to pay and what it actually costs to find an authentic bag in the condition they want.
I completely understand wanting the best price; that is one of the reasons I started Taylored Finds. I want to make authentic luxury more accessible, and many of our pieces are priced significantly below the larger luxury resale market.
At the same time, the brand name alone does not determine the value of a bag.
The exact model, size, material, age, color, demand, rarity, condition and included accessories can change the price by hundreds or even thousands of dollars.
What Goes Into the Price of a Luxury Bag?
When you see the price of a luxury bag, you are not only paying for the bag itself.
There are many costs involved before an item is ever available for purchase, including:
• The original purchase or auction price
• Auction and buyer commissions
• Sourcing fees
• Domestic or international shipping
• Customs and currency conversion fees
• Authentication
• Cleaning and conditioning
• Minor repairs or restoration
• Photography and measurements
• Researching the exact model and current market
• Selling platform and payment processing fees
• Packing materials and insured shipping
• The time spent inspecting, documenting and listing every detail
A Certificate of Authenticity alone can cost anywhere from $15 to $45 per bag, depending on the brand and authentication company.
A bag that costs $1,000 to acquire does not actually cost the business only $1,000. By the time it is shipped, authenticated, inspected, prepared, photographed and listed, the true cost is much higher.
There is also the risk involved when buying inventory. An item may arrive with undisclosed damage, need more cleaning or restoration than expected, or take months to sell.
These are costs that customers may not see, but they are part of responsibly operating a luxury resale business.
What Does “Excellent Condition” Really Mean?
Condition is one of the biggest factors in luxury resale pricing.
“Excellent condition” does not always mean flawless, unused or brand new.
Even major luxury resale companies may describe a bag as excellent while also disclosing scratches, corner wear, small marks, creasing, hardware wear or interior staining.
Condition terms are not standardized across the resale industry, which is why it is so important to read the full description and review every photograph.
When someone tells me they want a bag that looks almost new, I am looking for:
• No obvious corner wear
• No major scratches or stains
• No cracking or peeling
• No sticky interior or exterior coating
• No noticeable odor
• A clean interior
• Clean handles and straps
• Minimal hardware scratching
• Strong structure without major sagging
• Important straps, pouches and accessories included
A bag in that condition is naturally going to cost more than the lowest-priced version you can find online.
You can absolutely find an authentic luxury bag at a lower price, but the condition will normally reflect that price.
If the lowest possible price is your priority, you may need to accept visible wear, missing accessories, an older model or a less popular size.
If you want a bag that looks almost new, has minimal wear, includes its important accessories and has been professionally authenticated, your budget needs to match that expectation.
Louis Vuitton Price Expectations
Louis Vuitton Speedy Bandoulière 25
Current retail: around $1,980
Excellent or nearly new preowned: around $1,400 to $1,750
A vintage Speedy without a strap may be available for much less, but the condition will usually reflect the price.
A Speedy priced around $500 may have dark patina, watermarks, interior staining, hardware wear, odor, cracking or other visible signs of age.
The size also matters. Speedy 25 and 30 bags are generally more desirable for everyday use than the larger Speedy 35 and 40 sizes.
A classic Speedy and a Speedy Bandoulière should also not be compared as though they are the same bag. The Bandoulière includes a removable shoulder strap and normally sells for considerably more.
Louis Vuitton Alma
Alma BB in Monogram current retail: around $2,000
Excellent or nearly new preowned: around $1,350 to $1,750
Vintage Alma PM bags can sell for significantly less, but many have darkened vachetta, watermarks, worn handles or interior wear.
An Alma BB with its strap, lock, keys, clochette and minimal wear should not be compared with an older Alma PM showing significant use.
We recently sold an authentic Louis Vuitton Alma for around $550, which was significantly below typical market value.
That is a great example of how Taylored Finds pricing is often considerably lower than the larger resale market. I am focused on offering a fair price and moving inventory, not automatically matching the highest comparable listing.
Louis Vuitton Neverfull MM
Current retail: around $2,240
Excellent or nearly new preowned with the removable pouch: around $1,500 to $1,950
The removable pouch alone can affect the value by hundreds of dollars.
Cracked straps, worn top trim, heavy interior staining, strong odor and corner damage can also lower the price significantly.
The MM is usually the most popular everyday size, but PM and GM pricing can vary depending on condition and demand.
A Neverfull priced under $1,000 may still be authentic, but it will often have more visible wear, damaged trim, a missing pouch or significant interior staining.
Louis Vuitton Bumbags
High Rise current retail: around $2,020
Excellent or nearly new preowned: around $1,500 to $1,900
The original Monogram Bumbag is discontinued and remains highly sought after.
An original Monogram Bumbag in excellent condition may sell for around $2,000 to $3,000 or more.
Discontinued does not always mean valuable, but discontinued and highly desirable can result in a bag selling close to or even above its original retail price.
The original Bumbag, High Rise, Mini Bumbag and Empreinte versions are all different models and should not be priced as though they are the same.
Fendi Price Expectations
Fendi Baguette
Standard leather Baguette current retail: around $3,500 to $4,300
Excellent or nearly new preowned: around $2,200 to $3,400
Mini Baguette current retail: around $2,500 to $2,800
Excellent or nearly new preowned: around $1,500 to $2,300
Vintage fabric Baguettes may be less expensive, but rare prints, sequins, embroidery, beading and limited editions can increase the value significantly.
A basic canvas Baguette and a rare beaded or sequined version should not be compared as though they have the same value.
Fendi Peekaboo
Peekaboo ISeeU Petite current retail: around $4,500
Peekaboo ISeeU Small current retail: around $5,900
Excellent or nearly new preowned Peekaboo bags may range from around $2,800 to $5,000 depending on the size, leather, color, year and included accessories.
Structure is especially important with a Peekaboo. Loss of shape, corner wear, scratched hardware and interior staining can have a major effect on resale value.
Gucci Price Expectations
Gucci Jackie
Jackie 1961 Medium current retail: around $2,950 to $3,950 depending on the material
Excellent or nearly new preowned: around $2,000 to $3,200
A vintage Jackie and a current Jackie 1961 are not the same bag and should not be priced as though they are.
Vintage Jackie bags may be available for less, but pricing still depends on the material, size, structure, interior condition and amount of wear.
Gucci Marmont
GG Marmont Small Shoulder Bag current retail: around $2,600
Excellent or nearly new preowned: around $1,300 to $2,100
There are many different Marmont sizes, materials and production years, which is why resale pricing varies so much.
Leather wear, corner rubbing, flattening of the quilting, interior staining and scratches to the GG hardware can all affect the price.
Gucci Ophidia
Ophidia Small Shoulder Bags current retail: around $1,300 to $1,980 depending on the exact style
Excellent or nearly new preowned: around $900 to $1,500
An Ophidia mini bag, camera bag, tote and full-size shoulder bag should not all be compared as though they have the same value.
The size, exact shape, included strap and condition of the canvas and leather trim all matter.
Dior Price Expectations
Dior pricing can vary significantly based on the exact style, size, material and age of the bag.
A nylon vintage Lady Dior, a modern lambskin Lady Dior and a patent leather Lady Dior may all look similar in shape, but their retail and resale values are very different.
Mini Lady Dior
Current retail: around $5,500
Excellent or nearly new preowned: around $3,500 to $4,800
Medium Lady Dior
Current retail: around $6,700
Excellent or nearly new preowned: around $3,300 to $5,200
Lady Dior pricing varies greatly based on the size, age, leather and condition.
Lambskin can show scratches and corner wear. Patent leather may develop color transfer or discoloration. Older Lady Dior bags may also have different straps, interiors and closures than current versions.
A vintage Medium Lady Dior showing wear may be available for under $3,000. That does not mean a recent Medium Lady Dior with minimal wear, its original strap and accessories should be priced the same way.
Large Nylon Lady Dior
Typical resale price in good condition: around $650 to $1,000
Cleaner examples in very good condition may sell for around $900 to $1,300, depending on the color, structure, handles, hardware and interior.
Taylored Finds price: $795
The vintage nylon Lady Dior is very different from the current leather versions, so it should not be compared directly with today’s leather retail pricing.
Our Large Nylon Lady Dior previously had some stickiness caused by the aging exterior coating. I corrected the stickiness, but I still believe in being transparent about the bag’s history.
With vintage nylon Lady Dior bags, I look closely for:
• Stickiness or coating deterioration
• Discoloration or fading
• Marks or rubbing on the nylon
• Handle wear
• Loss of structure
• Tarnishing or scratches on the hardware
• Interior staining or odor
• Missing charms, straps or accessories
At $795, our bag is still competitively priced within the lower end of the resale market.
It is a great opportunity for someone who wants an iconic Lady Dior silhouette at a much more accessible price and understands that a vintage nylon bag will not look the same as a new leather version.
Lady D-Joy
Small Lady D-Joy current retail: around $5,200
Excellent or nearly new preowned: around $3,200 to $4,500
The Lady D-Joy normally includes both a leather strap and a chain strap. Missing either strap should affect the price.
Dior Saddle
Mini Saddle current retail: around $4,200
Excellent or nearly new preowned: around $2,500 to $3,500
Full-Size Saddle current retail: around $5,400
Excellent or nearly new preowned: around $3,200 to $4,500
Vintage Saddle bags may range from around $1,200 to $3,000, while rare archival prints and limited editions may sell for significantly more.
A vintage Trotter Saddle is not the same as a recent leather Saddle. The year, print, material, strap, hardware and overall condition all matter.
Dior Book Tote
Small Book Tote with strap current retail: around $3,500
Medium Book Tote with strap current retail: around $3,800 to $4,000
Excellent or nearly new preowned: around $2,000 to $3,200 depending on the size and material
Book Totes are especially sensitive to condition.
Handle discoloration, fraying, loose threads, staining and loss of structure can reduce the value significantly.
Chanel Price Expectations
Chanel Wallet on Chain
Current retail: around $3,850 to $4,600 depending on the style
Excellent or nearly new preowned: around $3,000 to $4,200
The material, color, age, hardware and overall condition can all affect the price.
A seasonal Wallet on Chain and a classic black caviar version may not have the same resale value.
Chanel Mini Classic
Current retail: around $5,600
Excellent or nearly new preowned: around $4,500 to $6,000
Certain colors, materials and discontinued versions may sell above retail.
Mini Chanel bags are also highly affected by the exact size and strap length. A rectangular mini, square mini and seasonal mini should not automatically be compared as though they are identical.
Chanel Classic Flaps
Small Classic Flap current retail: around $11,300
Medium Classic Flap current retail: around $11,700
Large Classic Flap current retail: around $12,600
Excellent or nearly new Small and Medium Classic Flaps may still cost around $7,000 to $10,500.
A vintage Chanel bag, a seasonal flap and a current black caviar Classic Flap are not interchangeable.
The leather type, hardware, age, size, color, structure and overall condition all affect the price.
Celine Canvas Tote Price Expectations
Small or Mini Canvas Cabas
Comparable current retail: around $1,950
Excellent or nearly new preowned: around $1,400 to $1,800
Depending on the year, Celine may call these the Mini Cabas, Small Vertical Cabas or Small Square Cabas.
The exact style and measurements need to be compared before deciding whether two bags should be priced the same.
I also look closely for corner rubbing, cracked trim, handle wear, interior staining and loss of structure.
Celine Sulky Large Tote
Comparable retail for current large Celine canvas totes: around $2,100
Typical excellent or nearly new resale pricing: around $1,400 to $1,900
Taylored Finds price: $1,095
This is another great example of how I price Taylored Finds bags significantly below the broader resale market.
I am not trying to find the highest listing online and match it.
My goal is to offer authentic luxury at a fair price while still accounting for the costs of sourcing, commissions, shipping, authentication, preparation and the time involved in carefully inspecting each piece.
At $1,095, our Celine Sulky Large Tote is hundreds of dollars below many comparable resale listings and close to half the price of a comparable new Celine canvas tote.
How I Price Bags at Taylored Finds
At Taylored Finds, I price the exact bag in front of me.
I consider:
• The brand and exact model
• The size and material
• The age of the bag
• The overall condition
• Included straps, pouches and accessories
• Current retail and resale pricing
• Sourcing and commission costs
• Shipping and authentication
• Cleaning, preparation or restoration
• The time involved in preparing the bag for sale
I also do not automatically match the highest listing I can find online.
A listing price does not always mean that is what the bag will actually sell for. I look at the broader market, the condition of the exact piece and what I believe is a fair price for both the buyer and my business.
Our Louis Vuitton Alma that sold for around $550, our Celine Sulky Large Tote priced at $1,095 and our Large Nylon Lady Dior priced at $795 are all examples of Taylored Finds pricing pieces competitively and often significantly below the larger resale market.
My goal is not to pretend a preowned bag is perfect.
My goal is to clearly show you what you are purchasing, explain every condition issue I see and offer authentic luxury at a fair price for the exact bag you will receive.

I completely understand wanting to gatekeep an incredible find, especially when you know you purchased it for significantly less than the broader market price.
